ESME CREED-MILES stars in Amazon series HANNA

Esmé Creed-Miles, is often labeled as an actor given her starring role in Amazon Prime’s HANNA, however she would be best described as a creative with her passions spanning fashion, music, writing, and directing as well. In fashion, in particular, she is a model with Kate Moss Agency and has graced Miu Miu and McQ campaigns. She also recently made her directorial debut with short film Jamie, which she also wrote and starred in. While her creativity spans wide, her acting skills are not to be overlooked; In HANNA, critically acclaimed series, Creed-Miles plays the titular character, raised in a Polish forest away from civilization, who is tasked with discovering her identity as an assassin among complex relationships and organizational ties. The series is based on the 2011 film of the same name, starring Saoirse Ronan and Eric Bana, and is set to release its third season on November 24, 2021. In our interview with her, Creed-Miles reflects on the final season of HANNA, talks about her short film Jamie, and tells us what we can look forward to next from her!

First, I wanted to start by congratulating you on Jamie. I saw that it recently played at the Leeds International Film Festival. What part of the creative process excites you the most- the original conception and writing, the directing and acting, or being able to see the final result?

Thank you! I just want to make amazing films- the kind of films I want to see. Every part of that process is fascinating and exciting.

What do you feel most proud of about Jamie?

I think it’s a really good short, I don’t have any regrets with it. We got a PJ Harvey track. I don’t know, I’m proud of all of it.

You’ve said in another interview that you don’t necessarily consider yourself an actress since you identify more with being a writer, fashion muse, director, and musician. In that sense, what kind of projects make you feel most fulfilled?

Yes, I think I feel most myself when I’m at the helm of a project. In that sense, writing for film and writing music is very fulfilling. That being said, I love to be in service of other great minds. When a decisive director knows what they want and inspires me, I’ll be a sheep.

In the realm of fashion, in particular, you model with Kate Moss Agency and have worked with Miu Miu and McQ recently. How does fashion impact your confidence and view of yourself?

What can I say? I love beautiful clothes, and beautiful images!

Shifting to your role as the titular character in Amazon Prime’s HANNA, which will be premiering its third and final season soon, I think there is a chance to reflect a bit on your experience playing Hanna now that it’s come to an end. When season 1 debuted, you had said that since Hanna grew up in the wilderness, she hadn’t internalized any male gaze. By the final season, what do you feel Hanna has internalized since the first season?

That’s a hard question. Maybe she has, maybe she hasn’t. But she’s got a lot of trauma, and she’s been through a lot. Perhaps she’s too preoccupied with saving the world to worry about what she looks like. I wish I could say the same for myself.

What was the last day on set like?

In the final season, there is a pretty equal balance between the physicality of your role and the emotional aspect of it. Which scenes do you tend to enjoy filming more?

That’s tough, I do think they are both equally satisfying. It’s been a privilege to have such talented actors throughout the seasons, Mireille [Enos], Joel [Kinnaman], Yasmin [Monet Prince], and now Adam Bessa and Ray Liotta. And so, re emotional beats, it’s been a joy to craft those moments with them.

Other than plot and characters, is there an element of HANNA that’s not talked about as much that you really enjoy? For example, I absolutely love the soundtrack and think it adds so much to the series!

I hate watching myself and so I haven’t seen the series, so I don’t know about the tracks! But I love what Karen O and Geoff B. wrote for season one. That was quite magical, and we were very lucky to have them. I think audiences probably connect with Hanna’s aspirational spirit, and the grittiness of the show’s aesthetic as a whole. The world, the clothes, and the actors don’t feel unrealistically polished like much of the T.V. we see right now.

What can we look forward to next from you?

Many very successful feature films.

Hanna to end with season 3: ‘That was always the intention,’ showrunner David Farr reveals

Hanna’s mission is almost over.

EW has exclusively learned that Prime Video’s action-thriller based on the 2011 film of the same name will end with the upcoming third season. “That was always the intention, to be honest,” showrunner David Farr tells EW. “If you look back at when I was talking about the second season, I talked about how it needed ‘the third act.’ I come from the theater originally, and I always have full act structure in my head to how a piece of drama plays out. And in this case, I felt that there was this very clear arc.”

All six episodes of Hanna season 3 — including the series finale — will debut Wednesday, Nov. 24. The premiere picks up almost immediately after the end of season 2, as teen assassin Hanna (Esmé Creed-Miles) embarks on her new mission to take down the sinister government organization Utrax from the inside, with help from enemy-turned-ally Marissa Wiegler (Mireille Enos) and blackmail victim John Carmichael (Dermot Mulroney). But Hanna’s fellow young assassins Sandy (Áine Rose Daly) and Jules (Gianna Kiehl), as well as terrifying new foe Gordon Evans (Ray Liotta), are starting to suspect Hanna’s plan. As she moves closer to her goal, Hanna begins to uncover not only a world-changing agenda but also the true power behind Utrax that stands between her and freedom.

Farr explains that each season has followed a different chapter in Hanna’s life, with this third season completing her journey into adulthood. “You’ve got the upbringing of the child Hanna, then you’ve got the adolescent Hanna, and then act 3 is the end of her journey,” he says. “And each of those parts of the journey involves the discovery of different parts of herself emotionally. It also involves huge discoveries in terms of things she didn’t know and things we didn’t know, and that’s true very much this season. So that’s how I’ve always had it planned.”

And Farr, who also wrote the original Hanna movie, knows that getting to conclude the series on his own terms is a blessing that many showrunners don’t get. “I believe that television should be brave enough to have fully shaped dramas,” he says. “I think it’s something that we’re beginning to appreciate more and more. I think some shows, of course, are deliberately endlessly running, and that’s fine, but I think there’s a pleasure in actually having an arc that you obey and observe.”

Looking back to when he wrote the Hanna movie, starring Saoirse Ronan and Eric Bana, Farr is proud of what he was able to accomplish with that film. But he’s even more grateful that he was able to extend that same story through an additional three seasons of TV.

“I loved the movie, and it did a lot for me,” Farr says. “But I always thought that this is an extraordinary character, and we haven’t quite plumbed the full journey of the idea of starting in the forest with this kind of feral creature who has no concept of the world, of people, of human relations, of the kind of family she might belong to. And fundamentally, this is deep down very much a family drama in a weird way. For me it’s rather wonderful that from the point in the cave with the little baby in season 1 with Joel Kinnaman, to be able to go from that to the end, that sense of journey for the character was always the reason I did it. To fulfill that is really exciting.”

Farr teases that the final season is “the most operatic of the three,” and that it ends on a high note. “It’s really about Hanna having to come to the ultimate terms with who created her and how she was created and why, and the political context and stakes and consequences of that, and the personal consequences and stakes of that,” he says. “It operates on a quite extreme family tragedy level. That central big arc of her finally coming to terms with the nemesis of what this project was, what is Utrax, what was it intended to do, who was behind it, what was it all about, and can she actually escape the destiny that it intended for her? That’s the fundamental drive of this season.”

The only question remaining is whether Hanna will get the happy ending she deserves — and what a “happy ending” for a teen assassin who knows only what she’s been taught even looks like.

Hanna Season 3 filming underway in Prague, could release in 2022

The second season of Hanna aired on Amazon Prime Video on July 3, 2020, and within 10 days, the action drama was renewed for a third season. Viewers are waiting for its arrival. Is Hanna Season 3 coming in 2021?

As the renewal happened during the pandemic, the third season’s filming was delayed. However, the good news is that the filming for Hanna Season 3 started in February 2021. Some parts of the shooting were completed in Prague, Czech Republic. A local production company named Film United coordinated the Czech shoot, reported The Prague Reporter.

While the cast for Hanna Season 3 is yet to be announced, it is assumed that Esme Creed-Miles (plays Hanna) and Mireille Enos (Marissa Wiegler) will return to the show in the primary roles. Other cast members who could return to the series include Dermot Mulroney (John Carmichael), Áine Rose Daly (Girl 242/Sandy Phillips), and Cherrelle Skeete (Terri Miller).

Based on the 2011 action film starring Saoirse Ronan and Eric Bana, Hanna stars Esme Creed-Miles as the titular young woman, whose mother was recruited into a secret government program that altered the DNA of their children to eventually turn them into super-soldiers.

Hanna was created by David Farr, who also wrote the screenplay for the 2011 movie. Hanna Season 3 is slated to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in late 2021. But according to Amazon Adviser, the filming plus the post-production work would take nearly one year. So Hanna Season 3 might release anytime between February and March of 2022.

We will surely keep you updated with any news about its release as soon as we get anything new. Stay tuned to Devdiscourse to get the latest updates on the Amazon Prime series.
